Kamal was the
only son of an extremely wealthy village based Landed
Proprietor, Kamal attended the village school and excelled in
his studies. The parents were proud of him as this pleasant
and well-behaved youth was loved by the entire village. The
father’s aim was to send his son to a reputed school in
Colombo to complete his education, so that he could associate
with persons in high society.
This he thought would
ensure him a place in the city’s elite class. Lodgings
for Kamal was arranged at a Minister’s residence in
Colombo as Kamal’s father was a strong supporter of
this politician, and the only person in the village who spent
millions for the Minister’s election campaign.
Kamal’s mother is blissfully ignorant of all this and
her consent or approval is not solicited to send the son to
Colombo.
However, after arriving in Colombo Kamal
associates with the undesirables and persons of doubtful
character. He becomes addicted to drugs that leads to
skirmishes with the law. Only the minister’s
intervention prevented him from dire consequences. The
Minister explains the situation to Kamal’s father and
consequently is taken back to the village. Kamal’s
return to the village causes even greater problems to his
parents. Kamal’s friends in the village too becomes
addicted to drugs and ultimately ends up as a pawn in the
hands of drug traffickers. Kamal’s father becomes
utterly disillusioned with his son’s degeneration, and
as there is no way of rehabilitating him, plans the
unpleasant task of destroying his only son. What befalls the
son at the end? Will the father destroy his only son? Will
the ever-loving mother come to the son’s rescue? |
