Ukkuva is an uneducated Youngman eking out a living from ‘slash & burn’ farming.  He is an orphan brought up his grand mother.  Ukkuva is in love with his first cousin Namali.  She rejects all his pleas for her love.  However, she reluctantly agrees to marry Ukkuva when her parents force her.  Despite the marriage they fail to understand each other. There are constant conflicts between them.  Even after she conceives a child, she constantly fights with him.  One day after one of these conflicts, she goes to her parent’s house.  Ukkuva persuades her to come back for the sake of the unborn child.  On her return, she slips at Ukkuva’s house and goes in to labors.  Ukkuva rushes to the other corner of the village to bring the mid-wife to deliver the child.  What happened in the aftermath is the high point of this film
