BIOGRAPHY
Udana Fonseka is a Sri Lankan Film Director, Film Producer, Screenwriter and Actor. He is the Co-founder of the film production company Grindout Productions.
Udana was inspired to become a filmmaker at the age of 8, after watching Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park”. He recieved his primary education in Sri Lanka at Christ King College, Tudella and secondary & higher education at Royal College, Colombo. In 2004 Udana attended a film workshop held by the Belgium filmmaker Samy Pavel. In the same year he wrote, produced and directed “Hope”, a short film about a victim of the 2004 tsunami. The short film was entered in the 2005 World Fest-Houston International Film Festival and made it to the top 50 under the short film category. In 2005 he played the lead role in “The Currupted”, a fifteen minute short film highlighting the drug world in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Until early 2009 Udana worked as an Art Director in the Sri Lankan advertising industry. In June 2009 at the age of 24, he co- founded Grindout Productions and co-wrote, produced and co-directed the action/thriller “Chase” with collaborator Ray Jay. In 2010 he directed his first solo feature film, the crime/drama/thriller “Train to Kandy” which was a remake of the British independent film "London to Brighton".
Udana is currently working as an Associate Producer on the 2012 feature film "Ghost Hunt: Legend of the Chanting Dwarf". He also plays a lead role in the upcoming sci-fi/action/thriller “Re- Entry” which is a standalone sequel to Gareth Edwards - "Monsters (2010)".
